About the role:

This senior role will oversee three teams who are responsible for educating the community in responsible resource recovery, managing the collection, cleaning of Council facilities and public domain cleaning.  The role is a pivotal in aligning business and waste synergies across our Council and LGA.

This role leads a growing team of passionate individuals who thrive on improving our services, educating the community and ensuring we are working towards a cleaner and better future.    

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring Council meets obligations under relevant legislation, standards, codes of practise that relate to the activities of the section.
  • Be a strategic leader in ensuring the waste and cleansing portfolios are aligned with the Community Strategic Plan, including but limited to:  
    • Development and implementation of waste management strategies, policies and business plans.
    • Delivery of effective community education in waste avoidance and increased resource recovery.
  • Be instrumental in ensuring Council’s obligations are met under the contract management for the waste and cleansing portfolios.
  • Liaise with key waste management staff in neighbouring LGAs to achieve regional collaboration on delivery of waste management services.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive job-related experience in the management resource recovery, waste and cleansing portfolios.
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of the resource recovery, waste and/or cleansing industries and government policy on waste and resource recovery.
  • Demonstrated in depth knowledge of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2001, and the Local Government Act
  • Extensive experience in procuring and administering complex contracts in relation to collection and processing/disposal of multiple waste streams and cleaning.
  • Demonstrated management experience in providing leadership and strategic direction to a multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of services, initiatives and programs to support the strategic objectives and plans.

  • Competitive salary package, starting from a base annual salary of $148,644.49 + 11.5% superannuation + vehicle allowance.
